Stephen B. Barone, J.D., Ph.D., joined Greenlee Sullivan in 2002. He has a doctorate in chemistry from the University of Colorado and was an Assistant Professor at George Washington University prior to completing law school at the University of Colorado. Dr. Barone’s practice emphasizes patent protection, technology commercialization and portfolio management relating to a number of interdisciplinary technologies emerging from interfaces between the fields of chemistry and physics and interfaces between the fields of physics and biology. He has particular expertise in technologies including proteomics, pharmaceuticals, nanotechnology, materials science, semiconductors, optics and optoelectronics, electronic materials and electrochemistry, and instrumentation (mass spectrometry, drug screening, medical devices and lasers). Dr. Barone performs legal and technology searches; provides patentability, validity, and infringement opinions; and prepares/prosecutes patent applications. His practice also includes corporate counsel in strategic business planning, portfolio management and IP landscape assessment. Dr. Barone also has experience in trademark protection and strategy, due diligence, and patent licensing and transactional work.
